With Smartphones, Case = Cash

With the shift from post-paid to pre-paid, the resale value of smartphones becomes an increasingly important factor. For most people dropping $400-600+ on a new phone isn’t something they can do frequently. For me, this means that I need to sell my current phone on Craigslist or eBay or something before I can buy the next phone.

When unloading phones on the used market, the condition that they’re in is crucial. As such, I’ve started using a case on my phone whenever possible. Even the thinnest case can protect your phone from the bevy of little knicks and scratches, even if you never drop your phone.

Otterbox is one of my favorite cases – their Commuter series is great to add some protection without a ridiculous boxy thing. It makes sense, then, that Otterbox did a study to see how having a case on your phone could increase the resale value later on.

Otterbox Case = Cash

As you can see, there’s a significant difference in what you can sell your phone for if you keep it protected just a bit.

Disclosure: while I didn’t receive any payment or product for this post, I have received product samples in the past from Otterbox.
