Trimming In Public Post 9

The Trimming In Public series is a way for me to share my RSS feeds with you, while at the same time, cleaning the list out for feeds that are dead or no longer of interest. Hopefully, you’ll find something new along the way that you’d like to add to your subscriptions.

Trimming in Public 9

161. Symbian-Guru.com – Old Symbian-Guru feed that now redirects here.

Determination: ELIMINATE

162. Symbian-Guru.com New Products – automated feed that was for the Symbian-Guru app store, to alert me when there were new apps listed.

163. Symbian-Guru.com Updated Software – Automated feed that was for the Symbian-Guru app store to alert me when there was updated versions of existing of apps.

164. SymbianOne– This was another Symbian site that’s basically dead now.

165. Symbianv3.com – Another dead Symbian blog

166. SymbianWorld – Another dead Symbian blog

167. TabletBlog – Daniel is a good friend who used to run TabletBlog.com. Last I heard, he was working with Barnes and Noble on the Nook, and is really into geeky hackery. I follow him elsewhere, which is good, cause this site is dead (despite the resurgence in tablets lately).

168. Tabula Crypticum – Randy is an old Nokian that I’ve been friends with for a while. We still stalk each other online, but unfortunately haven’t met up IRL in way too freakin long. Eitehr way, this was his old site, he’s got a new one now.

169. Taptu Mobile Search – Taptu was a really weird content aggregation service. I can’t fathom what I would use it for now.

Determination: ELIMINATE

170. TechCraver.com – Jason and I go way back to Barcelona for Nokia World, and we’ve been friends ever since. This is his primary blog, though he hasn’t updated it since October. I’ll hassle him to update it.

171. Textually – Emily launched Textually in 2003 to cover how cell phones were being used around the world, and especially messaging. It’s mostly just news lately, and old news. However, she’s recently launched 2 new sites, “3DPrintingBuzz” and “The Good Drone” both topics that interest me, so I’ve subscribed to both.

172. That Canadian Girl – My good friend Vero, who is from Canada, lives in the UK, but oddly, I only ever see in Texas at SXSW. Vero and her husband are the team behind Alfred for OSX, and they’re really cool. She hasn’t updated the site since June, though, and we’re obviously friends elsewhere in social.

173. Daddy Claxton – Another site that I don’t distinctly remember subscribing to, but I enjoy, nonetheless. Daddy Claxton writes about family, parenting, and such, from a masculine, tech-centered viewpoint. He’s also slightly more conservative. However, he recently went on a really unsubstantiated, and frankly, whiny, tirade about Firehouse Subs, so I’m unsubscribing.

174. Art of Manliness – Good lord I love the Art of Manliness. Their tagline is ‘a blog dedicated to uncovering the lost art of being a man’ and they don’t stray from that. They focus on an ‘old school’ vision of manliness, with respect, dignity, and the like. Their about page is a great read to get a feel for the site, and they do a PHENOMENAL job of building and maintaining a distinct look/feel for the site and its extensions. Also one of my favorite podcasts.

175. BGR – BGR, formerly Boy Genius Report, was founded by Jonathan Gellar, the self-named ‘Boy Genius’ who started out as a tipster for Engadget and other big sites. Zach Epstein, one of the lead editors on the site, is a good friend who used to run Symbian In Motion, and I love reading his stuff. However, lately, they’ve gotten a bit loose with the headlines, resorting to ‘you’ll never believe what happened next’ type stuff.

Determination: ELIMINATE

176. The Dotsisx Blog – This was Rita’s blog before I convinced her to join Symbian-Guru.com.

Determination: ELIMINATE

177. Glory of a Mirror – This was a blog started by Amy Spinney, one of the coolest women I’ve known, who I had the pleasure of working with at Pine Cove Christian Camps. Amy and I keep up on Facebook more now, and she hasn’t blogged since 2012.

Determination: ELIMINATE

178. The Involver Blog – This was the blog of the Involver team, a tool that RadioShack used to use for publishing/moderation. Involver was horrendous for us, and they’re owned by Oracle anyways, now.

Determination: ELIMINATE

179. The LG Girl – This was a girl that LG hired to be a content producer. Sort of an owned-blog scenario. It sounds shadier than it actually was, but unfortunately, it’s over now.

Determination: ELIMINATE

180. The Matt Walsh Blog – I don’t really know who Matt Walsh is, or what his overall site goal is (cause he doesn’t have it posted anywhere, which is annoying). However, I know that his posts often got shared all over my Facebook feed, so I just subscribed so I’d get an earlier heads up when he posts. He tends to be rather conservative, opinionated, and leans more Christian, though not overtly so. He’s also got quite a bit of common sense, and though his posts are long, they’re often solid, with just a little bit of sarcasm mixed in for comic relief.
