The Trimming In Public series is a way for me to share my RSS feeds with you, while at the same time, cleaning the list out for feeds that are dead or no longer of interest. Hopefully, you’ll find something new along the way that you’d like to add to your subscriptions.
141. Russell Beattie’s Blog – Russell Beattie is a mobile guy from way back. His blog is a treasure trove of predictions, observations, musings, and other good writing. He currently works at Amazon on the Kindle, among other things.
Determination: KEEP
142. Ryan Block’s Blog – Ryan Block was the editor of Engadget for a while, then left to confound Gdgt, which he adamantly stated was NOT another tech blog. Recently, Engadget and Gdgt merged, so it’s all basically the same again. He also hasn’t updated his personal blog since 2011.
Determination: ELIMINATE
143. Scobleizer – Oh, Robert Scoble. Probably one of the most ridiculed people in Silicon Valley, Robert has some pretty thick skin. He’s also quite accomplished, and has done an amazing job of positioning himself in the industry. Like him or hate him, Robert’s a genuinely nice guy (the few times I’ve met him) and he knows his way around the tech industry like no one else. He’s usually looking at/talking about stuff that’s 3-5 years down the road, and for that, definitely worth the follow.
Determination: KEEP
144. Scott Janousek – I don’t recall meeting Scott, online or in person, but his blog has bits of 3D printing, robotics, and that sort of thing. The type of thing I’m definitely into, and would like to see more of.
Determination: KEEP
145. Shanelife – Shane Adams is a social guy who’s worked on Chipotle and AMC Theatres, among others. He started Brand Socialites, an invite-only community for people who ‘do’ social at brands. It’s a community that I’m honored to be a part of, and Shane’s a REALLY smart guy (he’s pretty cool, too). He keeps his blog moderately updated, so it’s a keeper.
Determination: KEEP
146. Smart Mobs – This appears to be a blog focused around mobile/social/tech and the intersection of those. However, it hasn’t been updated in over a year.
Determination: ELIMINATE
147. Snipe.net – I don’t remember when I started reading Snipe.net, but I know it’s been a while. It was probably one of the times I redesigned Symbian-Guru.com. She’s a great read, slightly offensive, but not afraid to express an extreme opinion, which is hard to come by on the Internet these days.
Determination: KEEP
148. Social Media Club of Fort Worth – Official site for the Fort Worth chapter of Social Media Club. I don’t really attend the meetings, mainly due to scheduling. However, there are some really smart, cool folks in there, including most of the leadership. I keep the feed for interesting links, as well as to keep up with their meet up schedule, in case I’m ever able to make it.
Determination: KEEP
149. Social Media Marketing – Looking at this site, I’m kinda ashamed that I’m following it. Seems very Social Media Ninja-ish.
Determination: ELIMINATE
150. Socialight Blog – Before there was Foursquare or GoWalla, there was Socialight. Socialight focused more on the venues than either Foursquare or GoWalla do, and the ‘tips’ you can leave there. Unfortunately, they never really got off the ground, and the site appears to be dead.
Determination: ELIMINATE
151. SocialTimes – Social news aggregation site. Leans a bit towards the ‘ninja’ side, but overall, good stuff.
Determination: KEEP
152. Space and Time – No clue. At one point this might’ve been a good blog, but it’s password-protected now, so never mind.
Determination: ELIMINATE
153. Spredfast – Spredfast is the tool that we used to publish and moderate our communities at RadioShack – their feed gives me updates on new features, as well as great case studies, best practices, and other solid social news. Definitely a keeper.
Determination: KEEP
154. STFU Parents – a fun blog that mocks the crap that parents post on Facebook/Twitter. Hilarious.
Determination: KEEP
155. Stuff Christians Like – Jon Scuff started ‘SCL’ a long time ago, and it’s hilarious. It’s a light-hearted look at the Christian faith and some of the boneheaded things we do in the journey to be more like Christ. He’s also done some really cool mission trip projects, as well.
Determination: KEEP
156. SXSWBaby – Primarily led by my friend Ewan Spence, SXSWBaby updates year-round, but is primarily active during the lead-up to SXSW. Great stuff if you’re likely to go to SXSW.
Determination: KEEP
157. Symbian Blog – Used to be a great source for Symbian themes, but now it has poetry and Italian writings.
Determination: ELIMINATE
158. Symbian Foundation Blog – This was the official blog of the Symbian Foundation. Obviously defunct. RIP.
Determination: ELIMINATE
159. Symbian Foundation Security Blog – Another dead Symbian blog
Determination: ELIMINATE
160. Symbian UI Brainstorm – This was a blog that sought to highlight UI issues in Symbian and provide recommended fixes.
