Trimming In Public Post 1

The Trimming In Public series is a way for me to share my RSS feeds with you, while at the same time, cleaning the list out for feeds that are dead or no longer of interest. Hopefully, you’ll find something new along the way that you’d like to add to your subscriptions.

Trimming In Public

1. 1000heads.com – Authored by a team of folks, 1000heads is the team formerly behind ‘Nokia WOMWorld’, one of Nokia’s influencer outreach programs. While I used to keep track for personal reasons, I keep 1000heads now as a professional resource.

Determination: KEEP

2. 9to5Google.com – Authored by a team of writers, 9to5Google is a great way to keep up with Google’s activity, especially from a social media perspective. I’ll be keeping this one, as it focuses on my work interests quite nicely.

Determination: KEEP

3. AboutFoursquare.com – Authored by a team of writers, this is a great blog for keeping up with the latest changes/improvements to the Foursquare service, especially from an advertiser standpoint.

Determination: KEEP

4. TheMobilePerspective.com – Authored by my friend Jeb Brilliant. We met a long time ago, and Jeb normally has a fresh perspective on things from a consumer standpoint and doesn’t often regurgitate what the other tech blogs are covering.

Determination: KEEP

5. AdLiterate.com – Authored by a team, I believe I got this link through James Whatley. It’s a great look at the advertising industry from the POV of an insider with over 20 years of experience, a director at Saatchi and Saatchi.

Determination: KEEP

6. AdrianDParker.com – My friend and former boss at RadioShack, Adrian is now the VP of Digital at Patron Spirits. Adrian’s an awesome dude, and typically has great industry-related insights, along with some spiritual and personal shares, as well (when he takes the time to blog).

Determination: KEEP

7. Adverveblog.com – Another addition from James Whatley’s trimming. Adverve typically shares various ad campaigns, as well as interesting stuff from across the web. Good to keep a fresh eye out there.

Determination: KEEP

8. ALL THAT IS GOOD – Written by Dan Goodall, who used to head up marketing at Nokia, and I believe we met once or twice. He’s now at 358, a creative agency doing cool stuff. Dan’s got a fresh outlook on things, and is one of many ex-Nokians that you’ll find in my RSS list. He updates regularly and has good stuff.

Determination: KEEP

9. Android and Me – Maintained by a team, AndroidandMe is one of my Android-centric blogs, and they do a bang-up job. They often have a unique perspective that other Android blogs are lacking, and they make a sincere effort to stand apart. I’ve also hung out with the team on several occasions, and as we say in Texas, “They’re good people.” They recently moved to a VERY truncated feed, which is normally an instant-unsubscribe, but Taylor was kind enough to give me this feed for their full pull, so they get to stay.

Determination: KEEP

10. AndroidBeat – Maintained by a team, including the world-reknowned Rita El Khoury. Rita used to write Symbian-Guru.com with me, and she’s really smart and an awesome writer. They tend to shy away from plain old news and focus more on how-tos, walkthroughs, and the like – solid content.

Determination: KEEP

11. AndroidCentral – Android Central is easily one of the top 3 Android-specific blogs out there, and Phil and team do an awesome job. They particularly stand out with editorials and ‘real life’ use-cases, both of which I have a personal affinity for, since that’s how I used to write.

Determination: KEEP

12. Android.Appstorm – Previously a great place to get news on new and upcoming Android apps, but the site has been killed recently.

Determination: ELIMINATE

13. Damn I Wish – Andy Sernovitz’ personal blog. Andy is the head of SocialMedia.org, and this is a great read. It’s full of tips and observations of things from all over the place, including Andy’s real-live experiences. If you work at a company, you should be reading this.

Determination: KEEP

14. atmaspheric | endeavors – I don’t really recall when Jonathan and I met, but we have both blogged heavily about Nokia and were participants in Nokia’s Blogger Relations program in the U.S. for several years. He’s since joined R/GA as Managing Director, Mobile and Social Platforms, but he still maintains his personal blog, and he’s a good friend. It’s always good to hang out, and I really enjoy Jonathan’s no-nonsense style. He’s also recently picked up Google Glass and a 3D printer, and his thoughts on both are great reads, as well.

Determination: KEEP

15. Big Fat Loser – RJ was at one point a RadioShack employee and I subscribed to monitor his posts, as he’d indicated that he wasn’t a big fan of his employment. He quit of his own volition.

Determination: ELIMINATE

16. BlackFriday.info – GREAT resource for keeping up with the Black Friday ad leaks every October/November.

Determination: KEEP

17. Blog Maverick – This is the official blog of Mark Cuban, entreprenuer and owner of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team. He’s an interesting man to follow, and a really smart businessman. However, his posting has dropped off lately, and I usually hear about his posts from other sources.

Determination: ELIMINATE

18. Brand Socialites – This is a private group of people who ‘do’ social media at major brands. There’s no executives or agencies or vendors, it’s only for people who are ‘on the ground’ so to speak. It’s easily one of the most valuable communities that I’m a part of these days, but the blog is never updated.

Determination: ELIMINATE

19. Copyblogger – Copyblogger is a must-read resource for anyone who creates content (even if you don’t normally ‘blog’). They’ll include case studies, tips and tricks, idea generators, and more.

Determination: KEEP

20. Cosguru – Cosmin has a colored online history of managing communities, and he was my boss at RadioShack as our Director of Social and Digital Strategy. He’s a smart dude, and would probably harass me if I dumped his blog.

Determination: KEEP
