One of the many gifts that God has given me in my life is the ability to almost permanently wear a pair of rose-colored glasses. I’ve always had a knack for optimism, able to seek out the (sometimes hidden) positive in any situation. It’s annoying at times, but it’s also pretty useful, as well. Up till recently, I didn’t think much of it, except when one of my friends referenced my ‘rose-colored glasses’. Then I heard a podcast from the Art of Manliness with author Ryan Holiday, about his book “The Obstacle Is The Way: The Timeless Art of Turning Trials into Triumph.” Holiday looks at how various people throughout history have used stoicism to maintain a similar optimistic outlook, even in the most dire situations.
I’m not familiar with stoicism itself, so it’s certainly something I’ll be researching. I love the principle of finding the opportunity in every obstacle.
