Counting Crows Ditch Their Label

I’ve been a Counting Crows fan since 1996, when their Recovering The Satellites album came out. I’ve actually purchased every single Counting Crows album, on CD, which is one of the few bands I can say that about. They’re simply phenomenal, and great listening for a mellow, relaxing day, specifically if it’s really rainy out, or really sunny. In any case, they’re awesome.

Today’s news, from TechCrunch.com, is that Counting Crows just announced on their blog that they’ve ditched their label, Geffen Records (part of Universal Music Group). The band’s lead singer, Adam Duritz, says:

The internet opens a world of limitless possibility, where the only boundaries are the boundaries of your own imagination….Unfortunately, the directions we want to go and the opportunities we want to pursue are often things that our label is simply not allowed to do.

Brilliant. I’m anxiously awaiting the group’s next CD, and even happier to see that they’ve decided to embrace the internet. I’m really anxious, as well, to see what these directions and opportunities are. Awesome. You can check out Counting Crows’ content here.

  1. Good band and good music, but Adam Durwitz is a tool. I had the displeasure of meeting him a few times. My friends’ band was on his label a few years back. FYI, the dreads are fake.
