2 years ago this past Thanksgiving, I was introduced to the world of dual-monitor computing, and it changed my life. Having 2 monitors instead of one may sound a bit odd if you’re one of the three non-techgeeks who read RickyCadden.com, but it’s an incredible boon in productivity, and if you work on computers alot – specifically with graphics or video editing, it is completely, 100% worth the expense of the 2nd monitor.
Unfortunately, I also travel quite a bit, both personal and for business, and thus, I’m often restricted back to a single-monitor setup, which is less than ideal, specifically when I’m at a conference where productivity needs to be at a maximum. Of course, I *could* pack up my spare monitor and set it up at the hotel, but that’s just….weird.
Especially when you have something as brilliant as the Lenovo ThinkPad W700d. This is a regular laptop with a 17″ display (a bit too big for my tastes, but I think I might be able to deal with it) and decent power under the hood. The big feature, though, is the pull out 10.6″ display on the side. That’s right – this laptop has a 2nd display built right into the side. BRILLIANT.
Here’s a video of it in action. Unfortunately, we don’t know when this thing will be available, nor how much it’ll cost, but count me in the ‘extremely interested’ crowd, for sure.
