Trimming In Public Post 3

This entry is part 4 of 12 in the series Trimming In Public

The Trimming In Public series is a way for me to share my RSS feeds with you, while at the same time, cleaning the list out for feeds that are dead or no longer of interest. Hopefully, you’ll find something new along the way that you’d like to add to your subscriptions.

Trimming In Public 3

41. Finland For Thought – This was my friend Phil’s first blog, about his years in Finland while he was working at Nokia. He’s neither working for NOkia NOR living in Finland anymore, and he has a new blog, so this one’s dead.

Determination: ELIMINATE

42. flors – Quim was a Nokian who fought hard for Maemo/Meego before eventually heading off to greener, more permanent pastures. He now works at wikimedia, but hasn’t updated his blog in over a year.

Determination: ELIMINATE

43. FlyScreen blog – Flyscreen was a homescreen replacement app for Symbian S60 devices at one point, and it’s obviously now dead.

Determination: ELIMINATE

44. Forum Nokia Blogs – Blogs posted by various members of Forum Nokia, Nokia’s original developer-relations program. IT’s dead, and I’m not a developer, so there’s no need to keep this relic around.

Determination: ELIMINATE

45. Fring – Fring was a VOIP calling service that premiered on Symbian S60 devices YEARS before anything else was around. They later added video calling on mobiles before Skype did, but their interface was always horrendous, and I could never stomach keeping it installed. They still update their app for other, more modern platforms, but I hated it then, and hate it now.

46. Future Watch (beta) – This was the blog for Nokia’s N-Gage service, post-resurrection. It’s a real shame, because Nokia had some AMAZING games on the rebooted N-Gage service that I would LOVE to see on Windows Phone or even Android.

47. Fuzzy Logic Robots – This is a blog by a fan of RadioShack who builds cool stuff with Arduino, Kinect, Raspberry Pi, and the like. Just plain neat things that I could never come up with.

Determination: KEEP

48. Garrett Winder’s blog – Garrett was a freshman at ACU in one of the Welcome Week (think FIsh Camp) groups that I volunreered with . Cool dude, he ended up setting up a web dev/design shop in Abilene and doing all manner of cool things. I believe he lives in London now, but I don’t think he blogs.

Determination: ELIMINATE

49. GigaOm – I started reading Om Malik when I got my subscription to Business 2.0 magazine in the late ’90s. The magazine is dead, but Om keeps on keeping on, with a phenomenal blog here that dips into tech, but also covers many other things. He’s assembled a crack team of writers, too.

Determination: KEEP

50. Gmail Blog – This is the official blog of Gmail. Most of their news comes through Engadget or The Verge anyways, though, for me.

Determination: ELIMINATE

51. GNOKKIA THEMES – Gnokkia was a prolific themer for Symbian/S60 devices, and has since tried to make the leap to ANdroid/Windows PHone, but it’s just not something I need in my feeds anymore.

Determination: ELIMINATE

52. Google Alerts “radioshack” – Google Alert for mentions of RadioShack. I needed this for work.

Determination: ELIMINATE

53. Google Alerts for “nseries” – Google Alert for mentions of Nseries – needed this when I ran Symbian-Guru, but not anymore.

Determination: ELIMINATE

54. Google Mobile Blog – Official feed of the Google Mobile blog. Again, I get most of these updated through other feeds that add more value.

Determination: ELIMINATE

55. Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri – Judging from the homepage, Gustavo must’ve been a mobile developer that I followed when I wrote Symbian-Guru.com. I don’t do that anymore, and he hasn’t blogged since 2012.

Determination: ELIMINATE

56. HTC blog – Official blog of HTC. They actually do a really good job with their corporate blog – it’s not all product product product in your face.

Determination: KEEP

57. Hulu blog – Official blog of Hulu. I don’t really get any value out of this, other than new hire announcements that are covered elsewhere.

Determination: ELIMINATE

58. Chris Freeland – Chris is the senior pastor at our church, and he’s a REALLY cool and smart guy. However, he stinks at consistently blogging, since he hasn’t posted here since 2011. I’ll keep listening to him on Sundays.

Determination: ELIMINATE

59. Ian Lawrence – Ian is a mobile developer. He hasn’t posted since 2012.

Determination: ELIMINATE

60. Improv Everywhere – Official blog of Improv Everywhere, which is a really cool improv troupe in the New York area that do cool, creative executions. However, most of their best stuff is videos, which I subscribe to on YouTube. No need for it here.
