How To Kick Start Social With Google+

A few weeks ago, I was invited to join a Google+ hangout focused on how brands and companies can use Google+ to kick start their social activity. Lots of people like to hate on Google+, particularly in the ‘social media’ industry, and particularly me.  It can be extremely frustrating to use, as a business, and even as a consumer. However, I’m a firm believer that if I’m going to have to use something professionally, I need to know it inside and out, so I try to be as active as I can on Google+. You can checkout my profile by going to Gplus.to/rcadden.

It’s mostly links with commentary – I’ve used Google+ to replace the ‘share’ functionality that used to exist in Google Reader, and I also just post updates and photos when I feel like it. I’m still trying to get my circles thing figured out. I think I need to find a good shared circle with photographers in it – I don’t have enough [good] imagery in my stream (no more gifs, please).

In any case, I was glad to join the hangout, along with Kip Wetzel, of Comcast, and Lynette Young, to talk about the things that brands/companies CAN do within Google+, and why it’s important that they do so. You can watch the recap below (it’s only 30 minutes, don’t be shy)

So what do you think? Do you use Google+ actively? Why or why not?
